The photography exhibition\u00a0 \u201cLIFE BEETLES \u2013 Little Big Ones\u201d, a project by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, is now on display at the Jardim dos Maroi\u00e7os.<\/p>\n

This exhibition aims to show the public a different side of insects, to try to change the negative perception normally associated with these living beings. The exhibition focuses not only on the 3 species targeted by the project, but also on other endemic insects that are unique to the Azores and some of them unique to the islands where they are found.<\/p>\n

The aim is also to raise awareness of the importance that these living beings have in nature, whether through pollination, seed dispersal, decomposition of organic matter, or for humans through food, clothing or even our health. Any significant disturbance can cause imbalances with ecological, environmental and economic consequences. Through the different roles they assume in ecosystems, these beings are essential to maintaining their balance.<\/p>\n

This type of macro photography exhibition, in the context of entomology, is rare internationally. This is only the second time it has been shown in the Azores, and on Pico Island it is the first time that insect photographs of this level of detail and quality have been exhibited. This exhibition will be on display until the beginning of October, and can also be visited at night, as it has its own lighting, which also gives it a very attractive appearance!<\/p>\n
