During May, the LIFE BEETLES project achieved its goal of planting 10,000 endemic trees in Lagoa do Caiado on the island of Pico.<\/p>\n

As part of action C.3, one of the main objectives is to convert an old pasture into a suitable habitat<\/em> for the target species Pseudanchomenus aptinoides <\/em>by planting endemic trees.<\/p>\n

Over four years, several planting campaigns were carried out, which faced several challenges. The main challenge was the high density of forage grasses, which made planting and maintaining the area through weeding quite time-consuming.<\/p>\n

However, the planting work doesn’t end there. It is always necessary to maintain the plantations that have already been made, as well as new plantations, not only to replace individuals that may not have survived but also to reinforce the density and diversity of species in the intervention area.<\/p>\n

We want to thank everyone who contributed to achieving this goal, from schools to volunteers and collaborators, especially the project’s field workers and the Pico Environment and Climate Action Service!<\/p>\n
