Between 24 May and 8 June, the 6th edition of the ‘Pedaços de Mar e Ambiente’ Campaign and the European Geoparks Week took place.

This initiative combines the celebration of two symbolic dates – World Environment Day (5 June) and World Oceans Day (8 June) – with the promotion of active and conscious citizenship around environmental and marine protection.

Various partners promote the campaign, including the Angra do Heroísmo Science Centre, the Os Montanheiros Association, the Azores Geopark, the University of the Azores / Azores Geodiversity Group, Marine Waste Terceira and Gê-Questa.

At the invitation of the Os Montanheiros Association, the LIFE BEETLES project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, collaborated in this campaign by organising the ‘Hotel de Insetos’ activity in two schools on Terceira island, EBI Biscoitos and EBI Infante D. Henrique.

During the activity, students had the opportunity to learn about the importance of insects, with special emphasis on the endemic insects of the Azores. After a lively talk about how they can help these small living beings, the students took to the field, simulating the construction of an insect hotel using various materials.
