Last March, the LIFE projects coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action took part in the Regional Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CRADS) meeting on the island of Terceira. This advisory body to the Regional Administration includes various government bodies and organisations with environmental and sustainable development responsibilities.
During the meeting, the managers of the LIFE projects had the opportunity to present the progress achieved to date, as well as the nature conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation actions that have been implemented on the different islands of the Archipelago. The main challenges faced were also debated, and strategies for progressing the projects were outlined, with a special focus on preserving biodiversity and restoring and adapting natural ecosystems.
The organisations present were able to analyse and advise on the conservation actions underway on the nine islands of the Azores, underlining the essential contribution of LIFE projects to protecting the Region’s flora and fauna.
