In 2021, the recently created Portuguese Network for the Study and Management of Invasive Species, LIFE STOP Cortadeira and LIFE INVASAQUA projects launched the challenge of organizing the 2nd National Week of Invasive Species (SNEI) and the 1st Iberian Week on Invasive Species (SIEI) , from May 29th to June 6th.

To this end, the Portuguese Network for the Study and Management of Invasive Species invited several entities to join this initiative, proposing one or more activities to be developed during this week.

The idea is to bring together, in a common platform, all the activities organized during the 2nd SNEI/1st SIEI, increasing the visibility of the initiative. Everyone’s help was requested for the dissemination of SIEI in order to “invade social networks”, both before and after the event (example: posts, shares, comments, photos, short videos, friends invitations, etc.). The goal is to reach the greatest number possible of people, including those who have never heard of biological invasions!

Thus, the LIFE BEETLES and LIFE VIDALIA projects decided to participate with the development of a short video about the problem of invasive flora in common gardens. The video is promoted by specialists in the areas of entomology and azorean flora and will  be shared on both projects’ social networks.

The video will air on June 2nd as part of the 2nd National Week of Invasive Species and 1st Iberian Week of Invasive Species.
