Last July, the VIII ACARAL (Regional Packs Camp) took place on the island of Pico, organized by the Regional Board of the Azores and by the Board of Pico of the Corpo Nacional de Escutas.

The event was attended by around 400 lobitos, organized into different teams, who had the opportunity to participate in the activity “Insects à Lupa”, promoted by the LIFE BEETLES project, over tree days full of outdoor activities.

The reactions of the participants were the most varied, highlighting the admiration of the participants when discovering the appearance of the mouth structures of the small beetles, under a magnifying glass!

It should be remembered that the LIFE BEELTES project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, has as one of its objectives the change of perception, often negative, in relation to insects. Closer contact with these living beings, the identification of different species and a better understanding of their importance are essential aspects for changing behaviour towards insects in general and, in the long term, is reflected in a better ability to change the behaviour towards the protection of nature in general.
